How to Choose the Correct LED Transformer
Choosing the correct LED driver is essential for a reliable LED strip installation. You must check three main specifications:
- Voltage: Your LED strip must be rated for 24V DC.
- Wattage: Calculate the total electrical consumption of every connected LED strip.
- Current: The connected LED load must not exceed the driver's 4.1A rated output current.
Most LED tape products display their power consumption in watts per metre (W/m). Multiply the wattage per metre by the total installed strip length to calculate the connected load.
LED Driver Wattage Formula
Watts per metre x Total metres = Total LED wattage
For approximately 20% spare capacity, divide the calculated LED wattage by 0.8 to estimate the recommended driver rating.
LED Strip Compatibility and Wattage Guide
The following examples show approximate maximum strip lengths based on an 80W planning load for this power supply. These are electrical load examples, not guaranteed maximum continuous strip-run lengths.
| LED Strip Power | Approximate Length | Total Load |
|---|---|---|
| 5W/m | 16m | 80W |
| 8W/m | 10m | 80W |
| 10W/m | 8m | 80W |
| 11W/m | 7m | 77W |
| 14W/m | 5m | 70W |
| 20W/m | 4m | 80W |
Important: The above lengths are calculated using the stated strip wattage and an approximate 80W recommended planning load. Actual permitted run lengths depend on strip construction, manufacturer guidance, cable size, installation temperature, voltage drop and power-feed arrangement.
Example 1 – 5m Warm White COB LED Strip
If your 24V warm white COB LED strip consumes 10W per metre:
- LED strip length: 5 metres
- Power consumption: 10W/m
- Total required power: 5 x 10W = 50W
- Approximate remaining nominal capacity: 50W
- Result: A 100W 24V driver is suitable in terms of voltage and power capacity.
This leaves useful additional capacity for reliable operation, provided the manufacturer's operating requirements are met.
Example 2 – 5m RGB COB LED Strip
Our 24V RGB COB LED strip is rated at approximately 14W per metre.
- LED strip length: 5 metres
- Power consumption: 14W/m
- Total required power: 5 x 14W = 70W
- Required output current: approximately 2.92A
- Result: This 100W 24V power supply can support the calculated load when used with a correctly rated RGB controller.
For RGB colour-changing LED strip, a compatible RGB controller must be installed between the 24V power supply and the LED tape.
Example 3 – 10m COB LED Strip at 11W/m
- LED strip length: 10 metres
- Power consumption: 11W/m
- Total required power: 10 x 11W = 110W
- Result: This exceeds the rating of a single 100W driver.
For this installation, choose a suitably rated higher-wattage 24V power supply, such as a 150W or 200W model where appropriate, or have the installation designed using multiple correctly separated power supplies.

Installation and Electrical Connection Guide
The power supply has separate connection points for the incoming AC mains supply and outgoing 24V DC LED lighting circuit.
AC Mains Input – 180–265V
- L = Live – AC mains live conductor
- N = Neutral – AC mains neutral conductor
- Earth symbol = Protective Earth – protective earthing terminal
For a typical UK installation, the supply is 230V AC, which falls within the stated 180–265V input range.
24V DC Output
- + = Positive 24V DC output
- - = Negative / 0V DC output
For a compatible single-colour 24V LED strip, connect the positive and negative DC outputs to the corresponding terminals of the LED tape, using correctly rated cable and suitable connections.
For RGB, CCT or RGB+CCT LED strip lighting, the power supply normally feeds a compatible controller, which then distributes power to the appropriate LED strip channels.
Important Electrical Safety Information
This is a mains-powered electrical product. AC mains wiring, protective earthing, cable selection, circuit protection and mounting should be completed by a suitably competent person in accordance with applicable UK electrical installation requirements. Isolate and verify the supply is dead before work. Do not connect 230V AC directly to a 24V LED strip. Ensure all terminals are enclosed or guarded, connections are secure and the installation remains accessible.

FAQs
What is a 100W 24V LED driver?
A 100W 24V LED driver is a power supply designed to convert compatible AC mains electricity into 24V DC for low-voltage LED lighting. This model is a constant-voltage power supply with a nominal 100W rating and a 4.1A output rating.
What makes this LED power supply new generation?
The new-generation design focuses on a compact, ultra-slim form factor suited to modern LED strip installations. At only 17mm high, the housing is useful where space is limited compared with many bulkier traditional power-supply designs.
How slim is this 100W LED transformer?
The unit measures 117mm long, 30mm wide and only 17mm high. Allow extra space for wiring, cable bends, terminal access and ventilation when planning the installation.
What is the difference between an LED driver, LED transformer and LED power supply?
These terms are often used interchangeably when shopping for LED strip lighting. This particular product is a 24V DC constant-voltage power supply. It must be matched to a lighting product that requires 24V constant-voltage input. It is not a replacement for a constant-current LED driver requiring a specific regulated current.
How many metres of LED strip will a 100W driver power?
The answer depends on the strip wattage per metre. Using approximately 80W as a planning load, this driver could support about 8m of 10W/m tape, 7m of 11W/m tape or 5m of 14W/m tape. Long physical runs may need additional power-feed points even where total wattage is within the rating.
How do I calculate the correct LED driver wattage?
Multiply the LED strip's watts per metre by the total number of metres being installed. For example, 6m of 10W/m tape consumes 60W. If allowing 20% spare capacity, divide 60W by 0.8, giving a recommended minimum driver rating of 75W. A correctly rated 100W 24V supply can therefore be a suitable choice for this example.
Can I use this transformer with 12V LED strip lights?
No. This driver outputs 24V DC and must not be connected to 12V LED strip. A 12V system requires a suitable 12V power supply.
Will this work with 24V COB LED strip lights?
Yes, provided the LED strip requires 24V DC constant-voltage power and the total connected wattage remains within the driver's capacity. It can be used with compatible warm-white, natural-white and cool-white COB LED tape.
Can I use this driver with RGB LED strip lights?
Yes. A compatible 24V RGB controller should be connected between the driver and the RGB LED strip. The controller allows the user to select colours, brightness and lighting effects. Both driver and controller must be rated for the connected load.
Can this driver be used with RGB+CCT LED tape?
Yes, if the tape is a compatible 24V constant-voltage product and the complete system is correctly sized. A suitable RGB+CCT controller is required to manage the colour-changing and adjustable-white channels.
Is this a dimmable LED power supply?
The power supply can be used in suitable 24V LED dimming systems with a correctly rated DC-side controller. Direct mains-side dimming compatibility is not confirmed, so do not connect a conventional phase-cut wall dimmer to its AC input unless the manufacturer specifically approves that arrangement.
Is this suitable for a UK 230V mains supply?
Yes. The labelled input range is 180–265V AC, which includes the nominal UK 230V mains supply. Installation must comply with applicable electrical requirements.
What do L, N and the earth symbol mean?
L identifies the live mains terminal, N identifies the neutral mains terminal, and the protective earth symbol identifies the earthing connection. These are AC input terminals and must only be connected by a suitably competent person.
What do positive and negative mean on the output?
The positive terminal provides +24V DC, while the negative terminal is the 0V DC return. Polarity must be matched correctly to the connected LED strip or controller.
Can I power multiple LED strips from one driver?
Yes, multiple compatible 24V LED strip sections may be supplied from one driver when the total connected load remains within its rating. Parallel distribution, cable sizing, polarity, protection and voltage drop must be considered. Do not simply assume that multiple strips can be connected end-to-end.
What happens if my LED strip uses more than 100W?
The load exceeds this driver's nominal rating and should not be connected. Select a suitably rated higher-wattage 24V power supply or redesign the system using separate correctly sized power supplies and distribution circuits.
Can I install this LED driver inside kitchen cabinetry?
It may be suitable for an accessible, appropriately ventilated and protected installation area within cabinetry, subject to the manufacturer's mounting requirements. Do not enclose it tightly, bury it behind inaccessible finishes or cover it with insulation.
Is this LED power supply waterproof?
A waterproof IP rating has not been specified for this model. Do not assume that it is weatherproof or suitable for exposed outdoor use. For outdoor installations, locate it within an appropriately protected and ventilated enclosure or select a suitable IP-rated driver.
Can this driver operate LED strips over long distances?
The driver can power compatible loads within its rating, but long cable runs and LED tape lengths can produce voltage drop. Longer installations may need heavier cable, parallel circuits or additional power-injection points to maintain even brightness.
Can the LED driver be connected directly to a plug?
Any plug-and-lead arrangement must be correctly designed, mechanically secured, protected and suitable for the equipment. The product has exposed wiring terminals rather than a factory-fitted UK plug, so professional electrical installation is recommended.
Does this listing include LED strip tape?
No. Unless explicitly stated in a selected bundle option, this listing is for one 100W 24V LED power supply only. LED strip, controllers, connectors, cables and aluminium profiles are available separately.
Can Manningham supply a complete LED strip lighting kit?
Yes. Manningham Lighting & Electrical can assist with a complete LED lighting setup, including LED strip tape, the appropriate power supply, controllers, connectors, cables, aluminium profiles and diffusers.
