24V RGB COB LED Strip Lights
Our 24V RGB COB LED strip tape uses high-density Chip on Board technology to produce a continuous, virtually dotless line of colour-changing illumination.
Unlike traditional low-density LED tape, where individual LED points may be visible, COB technology offers a smoother lighting appearance. It is particularly suitable for exposed lighting features, aluminium profiles, display shelving and media walls.

What Do You Need to Install RGB LED Strip Lights?
A typical 24V RGB LED strip installation requires the following:
- 24V RGB LED strip tape in the required length.
- A compatible RGB LED controller.
- A regulated 24V DC constant-voltage power supply.
- Correctly sized low-voltage cable and compatible connections.
- Optional aluminium LED profiles and diffusers.
Make sure the controller supports the strip's voltage, channel arrangement and electrical load. RGB and RGB+CCT strips generally require different control configurations.
Choosing a 24V RGB LED Strip Power Supply
Calculate the total LED strip load before selecting your 24V power supply.
Wattage per metre × total length = total connected LED wattage
Example: 14W/m × 5 metres = 70W
Select an appropriately rated 24V power supply with adequate capacity, following the manufacturer's operating recommendations.
The 14W/m value above is an illustrative calculation, not a specification for every RGB strip sold by Manningham. Always use the wattage shown on your selected product.
Long RGB LED Strip Runs and Voltage Drop
Longer low-voltage LED strip installations can experience voltage drop, potentially causing reduced brightness or uneven colour towards the end of a run.
Depending on strip wattage, cable length and controller capacity, longer projects may require additional parallel power feeds, power injection, separate controlled sections or RGB amplifiers.
Always observe the manufacturer's maximum run-length recommendations and use suitably rated cabling and protection.
RGB LED Strip Controllers and Dimmers
A compatible RGB controller allows you to select colours, dim the lighting and use any supported preset effects. Available control methods vary by product and may include remote controls or other compatible systems.
Check the specific controller for supported features before purchase. Standard RGB LED tape does not automatically provide individually addressable pixel effects or music synchronisation.
Aluminium Profiles and Installation
RGB LED strips can be installed inside appropriately sized aluminium LED profiles. These provide a clean finish, mechanical support and assistance with thermal management.
Mount tape on a clean, dry and suitable surface. Cut only at designated cutting points, observe the permitted bend direction and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Always disconnect power before wiring or modifying the installation. The 230V mains input side of a power supply must be installed safely in accordance with applicable electrical requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does RGB mean in LED strip lighting?
RGB stands for Red, Green and Blue. These three colour channels can be mixed to create a wide range of decorative lighting colours.
Do RGB LED strip lights produce white light?
Standard RGB strips can combine red, green and blue to produce a white-style mixed colour. For a dedicated white light source, consider RGBW or RGB+CCT LED tape.
What is the difference between RGB and RGB COB?
RGB describes colour-changing capability. COB describes the construction of the light-emitting strip. RGB COB LED tape combines colour changing with a smoother, virtually dotless appearance.
Are RGB LED strips dimmable?
Many RGB LED strips can be dimmed through a compatible controller, subject to the strip and controller specifications.
Do RGB LED strip lights need a controller?
A compatible RGB controller is required to select and change colours using the intended RGB control functions. Always match its ratings to the tape.
What power supply does 24V RGB LED tape need?
It needs a suitable regulated 24V DC constant-voltage power supply, rated for the total connected load. Never connect 24V RGB tape directly to 230V mains.
Can RGB LED strip lights be cut to length?
Many RGB LED strips can be cut at designated cutting points. Cutting intervals vary between products. Only cut at the approved marks.
Are RGB LED strip lights waterproof?
Waterproof protection depends on the individual product's IP rating. Standard indoor LED tape should not be used in exposed wet locations. Choose appropriately rated products and components for damp or outdoor installations.
Can I install RGB LED tape under kitchen cabinets?
Yes. Suitable RGB LED strips can be used for decorative under-cabinet, kitchen island and shelf lighting. For everyday white task lighting, consider a dedicated white or RGB+CCT solution.
Can I connect multiple RGB LED strips together?
Yes, subject to the manufacturer's requirements. The total load, controller capacity, power supply, cable sizing and voltage drop must be considered. Longer systems may need additional parallel feeds or controlled sections.
Is RGB LED strip suitable for media walls?
Yes. RGB LED tape is commonly used for decorative media wall lighting, provided the strip, controller, power supply and mounting components are suitable for the installation.
