Description
Kanlux ZEW IP44 Outdoor Up & Down Wall Light – Twin GU10 Exterior Wall Washer
Transform entrances, exterior walls, patios and building façades with the Kanlux ZEW Up & Down Outdoor Wall Light. Designed to project light in both directions, this contemporary exterior fitting creates an attractive architectural lighting effect while providing practical illumination around residential and commercial properties.
The ZEW range uses two replaceable GU10 / PAR16 lamps, allowing you to choose the colour temperature, brightness and LED lamp specification that best suits your installation. Unlike an integrated LED fitting, the lamps can be replaced independently when required.
Available in a choice of black or grey finishes and alternative body styles, the Kanlux ZEW combines a durable aluminium-alloy enclosure with tempered protective glass for a smart, professional appearance.
With an IP44 ingress-protection rating, the fitting is designed for suitable indoor and outdoor wall-mounted applications and is particularly effective for decorative façade illumination, entrances, patios, pathways, porches, garden walls and commercial exterior lighting.

Architectural Up & Down Lighting
The defining feature of the Kanlux ZEW is its dual-direction light output. One GU10 lamp directs light upward while the second projects illumination downward, producing two distinctive beams of light on the mounting surface.
This makes the ZEW particularly effective where the light fitting itself needs to become part of the building's appearance. Installed individually or repeated along a wall, the fittings can create a clean architectural lighting pattern around homes, apartments, restaurants, hotels, offices and commercial premises.
The final beam shape, brightness and colour appearance will depend on the GU10 lamps fitted, giving you considerably more flexibility than many fixed-output integrated LED wall lights.
Choose Your Style & Finish
The Kanlux ZEW EL-235 family is available in four manufacturer variants:
| Product Code | Model | Finish | Weight |

Please select the required style and colour from the available product options before ordering.
Choose Your Own GU10 Lamps
One of the main advantages of the Kanlux ZEW is its use of standard replaceable GU10 lamps. This gives you control over the final lighting effect instead of permanently fixing the fitting to one colour temperature or light output.
You can choose compatible GU10 LED lamps in:
- Warm White – typically around 2700K–3000K for softer decorative exterior lighting
- Neutral White – typically around 4000K for a clean contemporary appearance
- Cool White – commonly around 6000K–6500K for a crisp, brighter visual effect
- Different lumen outputs depending on the amount of illumination required
- Different beam angles to change the appearance of the up-and-down wall pattern
Important: The manufacturer specifies a maximum power of 2 × 35W. Lamps must remain within the permitted rating and be physically suitable for the fitting.
Unless a lamp option is specifically selected and stated with your order, the standard Kanlux fitting itself is supplied without light sources.
Ideal for Modern Exterior Lighting
The simple architectural design works particularly well with modern and contemporary properties, where repeated wall lights can add both practical illumination and visual interest after dark.
Typical applications include:
- Front doors and house entrances
- Porches and entrance walls
- Exterior house walls
- Garden walls
- Patios and terraces
- Side passages
- Paths and walkways
- Driveway walls
- Garage exteriors
- Extensions and garden rooms
- Restaurants and hospitality venues
- Hotels and apartment buildings
- Office entrances
- Retail premises
- Commercial façades
- Architectural and decorative wall lighting
IP44 Weather Protection
The Kanlux ZEW has an IP44 ingress-protection rating. This provides protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and splashing water from different directions when the fitting is correctly assembled and installed.
This makes the ZEW suitable for appropriate exterior wall-lighting applications, including locations exposed to normal outdoor weather conditions.
Correct installation remains essential. Cable entry, connections, mounting surface and assembly must all be completed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions so that the intended level of protection is maintained.
Strong Aluminium-Alloy Construction
The enclosure is manufactured from aluminium alloy, providing a robust housing suitable for permanent wall-mounted lighting installations.
Tempered protective glass is used at the light openings, helping protect the GU10 lamps while allowing the characteristic upward and downward light pattern to pass through.
The combination of the compact body, black or grey finish and dual-beam design provides a clean architectural appearance suitable for both domestic and professional projects.
Replaceable Lamps – Easier to Maintain
Unlike a sealed integrated LED wall light, the Kanlux ZEW uses replaceable GU10 light sources. If a lamp eventually reaches the end of its operating life, the complete exterior fitting does not normally need to be replaced simply because of the lamp.
This also means you can alter the lighting effect later by changing the GU10 lamps to a different colour temperature, brightness or compatible beam configuration.

Installation Advice
The Kanlux ZEW is designed for wall-mounted installation and operates directly from a 220–240V AC, 50Hz mains supply.
Electrical connection is made through the fitting's terminal arrangement, with the manufacturer specifying compatibility with conductor cross-sections from approximately 1mm² to 2.5mm².
The fitting is Class I and therefore requires connection to a protective earth conductor.
Kanlux specifies a minimum distance of approximately 0.5 metres from the illuminated object.
Important: This is a mains-voltage electrical fitting. Installation should be undertaken by a suitably competent person in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and applicable electrical regulations. Always isolate the electrical supply before installation, lamp replacement or maintenance.

FAQs
Is the Kanlux ZEW suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. The Kanlux ZEW EL-235 range carries an IP44 rating and is designed for suitable wall-mounted outdoor and indoor applications when correctly installed.
What does IP44 mean?
IP44 indicates protection against solid objects greater than approximately 1mm and protection against splashing water from different directions. Correct installation and assembly are required to maintain the fitting's intended ingress protection.
Does this wall light shine both upwards and downwards?
Yes. The ZEW is specifically designed as an up-and-down wall light. One lamp directs light upwards and the second directs light downwards to create an architectural wall-lighting effect.
Does the Kanlux ZEW have integrated LEDs?
No. The ZEW uses two replaceable GU10 / PAR16 lamps rather than a permanently integrated LED light source.
How many GU10 bulbs does it require?
Each fitting requires two GU10 lamps – one for the upper light output and one for the lower light output.
Are GU10 bulbs included?
The manufacturer supplies the standard ZEW fitting without light sources. If this product page offers an optional lamp package, lamps are included only where that specific option has been selected when ordering.
What is the maximum wattage?
Kanlux specifies a maximum rating of 2 × 35W. Each installed lamp must remain within the manufacturer's permitted rating.
Can I use LED GU10 bulbs?
Yes. Compatible GU10 LED lamps can be used provided they are suitable for the fitting and remain within its electrical and physical requirements.
Can I choose warm white bulbs?
Yes. Because the fitting uses replaceable GU10 lamps, you can select a compatible warm-white GU10 if you want a softer decorative appearance.
Can I use 4000K neutral-white GU10 bulbs?
Yes. Compatible 4000K GU10 lamps are a popular choice where a clean, contemporary white appearance is preferred.
Can I use cool-white GU10 lamps?
Yes, provided the lamps are otherwise compatible with the fitting. The replaceable GU10 design allows the colour temperature to be selected according to the required lighting effect.
Can the bulbs be replaced?
Yes. The light sources are replaceable. This is a major advantage over many integrated exterior LED wall lights because a failed lamp does not necessarily require replacement of the complete fitting.
What is the difference between the black and grey versions?
The electrical and principal technical characteristics are the same. The difference is primarily the exterior finish, allowing the fitting to be coordinated with the building, windows, doors or other external fixtures.
What are the dimensions?
The ZEW EL-235 fittings measure approximately 235mm high, 65mm wide and 110mm long/projecting from the mounting arrangement.
What is the body made from?
Kanlux specifies an aluminium-alloy enclosure with tempered protective glass.
Can I use this beside a front door?
Yes. When appropriately positioned and installed, the ZEW is well suited to entrances, front doors and porch areas where an architectural up-and-down lighting effect is required.
Is it suitable for patios and gardens?
Yes. Suitable applications include patio walls, terraces, garden walls, paths, external house walls and other appropriate wall-mounted locations.
Can it be used commercially?
Yes. The contemporary architectural appearance makes the ZEW suitable for many commercial applications including restaurants, hotels, offices, retail premises, apartment developments and building entrances.
Can several fittings be installed along one wall?
Yes. Repeating multiple up-and-down wall lights at suitable intervals can create a consistent architectural lighting pattern across a larger façade. Exact spacing should be determined according to the chosen GU10 lamps, mounting height and desired visual effect.
Is the light output adjustable?
The fitting itself does not determine a fixed lumen output because the GU10 lamps are replaceable. The overall brightness will depend on the compatible lamps selected.
Can I change the beam appearance?
To an extent, yes. The GU10 lamp specification and beam angle can influence how concentrated or broad the visible lighting effect appears on the wall.
Does it have a PIR motion sensor?
No integrated PIR sensor is specified for the standard Kanlux ZEW EL-235 models covered by this listing.
Does it have a dusk-to-dawn photocell?
No integrated photocell is specified for these standard ZEW EL-235 fittings. Where automatic operation is required, appropriate external lighting controls may be considered as part of the electrical installation.
Does the fitting require an earth?
Yes. The ZEW is a Class I fitting and therefore requires an appropriate protective earth connection.
What voltage does it operate from?
The fitting is designed for a 220–240V AC, 50Hz mains supply.
Can I install it myself?
This is a mains-voltage Class I electrical fitting. Installation should be completed by a suitably competent person in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and applicable electrical regulations.
How close can the fitting be to the surface it illuminates?
Kanlux specifies a minimum distance of approximately 0.5 metres from the illuminated object.
