200W 24V LED Driver Power Supply – New Generation Ultra Slim LED Transformer

Power your LED lighting installation with our new-generation 200W 24V ultra slim LED driver power supply. Designed for modern low-voltage LED lighting systems, this high-capacity constant-voltage LED transformer provides a 24V DC output for compatible COB LED strip lights, LED tape, RGB lighting, CCT lighting and architectural LED installations.

Featuring modern ultra-slim power supply technology, this next-generation 24V LED driver offers a compact, space-saving alternative to many traditional bulky LED transformers. The slimline housing is particularly useful for installations where available space is limited, including kitchen cabinetry, furniture, shop displays, media walls and ceiling features.

With a nominal 200W output rating, this LED power supply is designed for larger LED strip lighting installations requiring more power than smaller 60W or 100W drivers can provide.

The power supply converts a compatible AC mains input into 24V DC constant-voltage power, allowing correctly rated LED strip lights to operate from a suitable low-voltage supply.

For reliable system design, we recommend allowing additional power supply capacity rather than operating continuously at the maximum output. A practical starting point is approximately 160W of connected LED lighting load, allowing around 20% spare capacity, subject to the manufacturer's actual continuous-output rating and installation conditions.

Suitable applications include single-colour LED tape, COB LED strip lighting, and compatible RGB, CCT and RGB+CCT installations when used with the appropriate controller.

New Generation Ultra Slim LED Power Supply Technology

Modern LED lighting projects often require power supplies to be installed discreetly within furniture, cabinetry and architectural features. Conventional LED transformers can be bulky, making it difficult to accommodate them in installations where space is limited.

How to Choose the Correct LED Transformer

Choosing the correct LED power supply is essential for a safe and reliable LED strip lighting installation.

To determine whether this 200W 24V driver is suitable for your LED strip setup, you need to know:

  1. LED Strip Voltage: The tape must operate at 24V DC.
  2. Wattage Per Metre: Check how much power each metre of LED tape consumes.
  3. Total LED Strip Length: Add together all the sections connected to the power supply.
  4. Total Power Consumption: Multiply the strip wattage per metre by the total installed length.
  5. Power Supply Headroom: Allow additional capacity for reliable long-term operation.

LED Power Supply Calculation

Watts Per Metre x Number of Metres = Total LED Wattage

For approximately 20% spare capacity:

Total LED Wattage / 0.8 = Recommended Driver Rating

Example: 10 metres of 14W/m LED strip consumes 140W. Dividing 140W by 0.8 gives 175W, so a correctly rated 200W 24V driver would be a suitable choice in terms of voltage and wattage.

How Many Metres of LED Strip Can a 200W Driver Power?

The maximum suitable length depends on the power consumption of your chosen LED tape. The following examples use an approximate 160W recommended planning load, allowing 20% headroom from the nominal 200W rating.

LED Strip Wattage Approx. Total Length Total Load
5W/m 32m 160W
8W/m 20m 160W
10W/m 16m 160W
11W/m 14m 154W
14W/m 11m 154W
20W/m 8m 160W

Important: The lengths above are examples of total connected electrical load, not maximum lengths for one uninterrupted LED strip run. Longer installations may require multiple parallel feeds, additional power-injection points, suitably rated cabling and consideration of voltage drop.

The actual continuous output rating and manufacturer instructions must always be checked before installation.

Example 1 – 10m Warm White COB LED Strip

If you are installing 10 metres of our 24V warm white COB LED tape rated at 10W per metre:

  • LED strip length: 10 metres
  • Power consumption: 10W per metre
  • Total wattage: 10 x 10W = 100W
  • Power supply nominal rating: 200W
  • Result: The calculated load is comfortably within a 160W planning limit.

This arrangement could use the 200W power supply with suitably designed parallel connections and appropriate power injection where necessary.

Shop 24V Warm White COB LED Strip Lights

Example 2 – 10m RGB COB LED Strip

For a 24V RGB COB LED strip consuming 14W per metre:

  • LED strip length: 10 metres
  • Power consumption: 14W per metre
  • Total required power: 140W
  • Approximate output current: 5.83A at 24V
  • Result: A 200W power supply has suitable nominal capacity for this calculated load, subject to the actual output rating and installation conditions.

An RGB LED controller rated for the total lighting load is required. The RGB tape should not be connected directly to the power supply without the appropriate control arrangement.

Shop Our 24V RGB COB LED Strip

Example 3 – 20m COB LED Strip at 11W/m

  • LED strip length: 20 metres
  • Power consumption: 11W/m
  • Total required power: 220W
  • Result: The load exceeds the nominal 200W driver rating.

For this installation, select a suitably rated larger 24V power supply, or divide the project into separate correctly designed electrical circuits using appropriately rated drivers.

How to Connect a 200W 24V LED Power Supply

A 24V constant-voltage LED power supply converts a compatible AC mains input into low-voltage DC power for the LED lighting circuit.

AC Mains Input

Where the unit is marked with standard mains terminal designations, these indicate:

  • L: Live AC input
  • N: Neutral AC input
  • Earth Symbol: Protective earth connection, where provided by the manufacturer

24V DC Output

  • V+ / +: Positive 24V DC output
  • V- / -: Negative / 0V DC output

On a compatible single-colour LED strip, the positive and negative outputs feed the corresponding LED tape connections. The polarity must be correct.

On RGB, CCT or RGB+CCT systems, the 24V driver normally powers the LED controller, with the controller connected to the appropriate channels on the LED tape.

For a common-positive RGB system, the strip may have terminals labelled V+, R, G and B. The RGB controller manages the individual red, green and blue channels. Always follow the specific controller's wiring diagram.

Electrical Installation and Safety

This is a mains-powered electrical product. Mains connections and electrical installation must be completed by a suitably competent person. Always isolate and verify the circuit is dead before working. Follow the manufacturer's terminal markings, protective earthing requirements, cable sizing instructions, mounting clearances and electrical safety information. Never connect 230V AC directly to a 24V LED strip.

Long LED Strip Runs and Voltage Drop

Although a 200W driver can supply a relatively large total LED load, this does not necessarily mean that all the tape should be connected in one continuous strip.

Long 24V LED strip runs can experience voltage drop, which may cause the LEDs towards the end of the run to appear dimmer.

Depending on the tape specification and installation layout, it may be necessary to:

  • Supply power from both ends of a strip
  • Use additional power injection points
  • Split the installation into parallel sections
  • Select suitable cable sizes
  • Position the driver closer to the LED load
  • Use multiple separate power supplies when required

If you are unsure how to supply a longer LED strip installation, contact Manningham Lighting & Electrical. We can help calculate the required driver capacity and recommend a suitable power distribution arrangement.

FAQs

What is a 200W 24V LED driver?

A 200W 24V LED driver is a power supply designed to provide a constant 24V DC output for compatible low-voltage LED lighting. Its nominal 200W capacity makes it suitable for larger lighting loads than many lower-wattage drivers.

What makes this a new-generation LED transformer?

The new-generation design features a modern ultra-slim housing intended for installations where a traditional bulky LED power supply may be difficult to accommodate.

What is the difference between a 100W and 200W LED driver?

Both are designed to provide 24V DC power, but the 200W model has twice the nominal power capacity of a 100W model. This makes it more suitable for larger LED strip loads, provided the connected equipment and installation are compatible.

How many metres of LED strip can a 200W power supply run?

This depends on the power consumption per metre. At an approximate 160W planning load, it could supply around 16m of 10W/m tape, 14m of 11W/m tape or 11m of 14W/m tape. These are total connected load examples; individual physical runs may require additional power feeds to prevent voltage drop.

Will a 200W LED driver work with 24V COB LED strip?

Yes, provided the COB LED strip operates at 24V DC constant voltage and its total electrical load remains within the power supply's actual rating.

Can I use a 200W power supply for only 5 metres of LED strip?

Yes. A power supply with a higher wattage rating can be used with a smaller compatible load. The LED strip draws the current it requires, subject to the output voltage being correct and the equipment operating within its specifications.

Is 200W too powerful for a 50W LED strip?

No, not necessarily. A correctly regulated 24V constant-voltage power supply can supply a 50W compatible 24V LED strip, even if the driver is rated for 200W. The 200W figure represents the available power capacity, not power forced into the tape.

Can I use this power supply with 12V LED tape?

No. This is a 24V DC power supply and must not be connected to 12V LED strip. A suitable 12V power supply is required for 12V lighting products.

Can I connect multiple LED strips to one 200W driver?

Yes. Multiple compatible 24V lighting sections may be powered from one suitable driver, provided the combined connected load remains within its rated capacity. Correct parallel wiring, cable sizing, protection and voltage drop must be considered.

Can I connect 20 metres of LED tape to this driver?

Possibly, depending on the tape wattage. For example, 20m of 5W/m tape requires 100W, whereas 20m of 11W/m tape requires 220W and exceeds this driver's nominal capacity. Longer installations generally need appropriately designed distribution and power injection.

Can this driver be used with RGB LED strip?

Yes, with a compatible 24V RGB controller rated for the connected LED load. The controller is normally installed between the driver and the RGB strip.

Can this power supply be used with a wall-mounted LED controller?

Yes, where the controller is designed for 24V DC constant-voltage operation and its input and output ratings are suitable for the connected system. Always check controller compatibility.

Is the 200W LED transformer dimmable?

Suitable 24V DC-side LED controllers can be used to control compatible LED tape. Do not assume the driver supports direct mains-side phase-cut dimming unless this is confirmed by the manufacturer.

Can I install the power supply inside a cupboard or media wall?

It may be possible where suitable ventilation, mounting, terminal protection and service access are provided in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements. Avoid inaccessible, unventilated and insulated cavities.

Is this 200W LED power supply waterproof?

The IP rating must be confirmed from the manufacturer's documentation. Do not install it in exposed outdoor or wet locations unless the product or its enclosure has suitable protection for the installation environment.

Why are the LEDs dimmer at the end of my strip?

Uneven brightness can be caused by voltage drop along lengthy LED strip runs or undersized supply cables. Additional power injection, suitable cable sizing or revised distribution may be required.

Does this listing include LED strip lights?

No. Unless specifically stated as part of a selected bundle, this listing is for one 200W 24V LED power supply only. LED tape, controllers, connectors, cable and aluminium profiles are sold separately.

Can Manningham supply the complete LED strip lighting setup?

Yes. We can help specify and supply a complete compatible lighting package, including LED strip tape, drivers, controllers, cabling, connectors, aluminium profiles and diffusers. Contact our team with your project measurements and requirements.
